Queen and Prince Philip open the new Met Police headquarters

After postponing the visit due to the Westminster attack, today The Queen and Prince Philip officially opened the new headquarters of the London Metropolitan Police, New Scotland Yard, on Victoria Embankment.

The Queen arrived in a sunshine yellow coat with a matching hat, and the Duke – in a navy suit with a blue tie – were greeted by Cressida Dick, the first female commissioner of the Met Police, and her deputy Craig Mackey. They were also greeted by a pair of police horses.

The Royals were taken on a tour of the building where they saw a bomb disposal robot, coronation police uniforms, old police cars, they met serving officers, and shared a joke or two.

The Monarch and her consort met serving police officers who demonstrated how they protect London on a daily basis; the Met is the largest police force in the UK with over 43,000 officers.

Specialised members of the Met put on a display of the bomb disposal robot in action, which has already been put to the test across the capital in recent weeks.

Later in the tour, the royal couple met officer demonstrating a day in their lives, including search dogs sniffing for explosives, dog handlers, forensic specialists, and special constables. They were also introduced to first responders at the recent terrorist incidents across London.

I didn’t know about attack. Nonetheless t h e Queen looked radia nj t in her yellow and defies those whom try to put fear in our hearts.
