Princess Eugenie has admitted that she has watched some of the popular Netflix series, The Crown, and shared her opinion of it in an interview with Hello! magazine.
Prince Andrew’s youngest daughter revealed that she has seen a ‘couple’ of episodes of the series, which centres on The Queen’s early days on the throne, and claimed that she felt ‘very proud’ watching it.
While Eugenie, 27, said that she isn’t sure how everyone in the Royal Family feels about the show, but in her opinion The Crown is filmed ‘beautifully’, with ‘wonderful’ music.
“It is filmed beautifully. The music is wonderful, the story is beautiful,” the York Princess said to the magazine. “You feel very proud to watch it. I can’t speak for everyone, but that’s how I felt when I watched it.”
Some may think these views are quite surprising, given that the plot is a dramatisation of historical events – many of which are unknown and ‘behind-the-scenes’ – and has portrayed her grandfather, The Duke of Edinburgh, as quite the ladies’ man!
Although the Netflix show has not yet shown the younger members of the Royal Family (the storyline is still in the 1950s), Eugenie already has an idea of who she’d like to play her in any future royal dramas: The Queen’s granddaughter would like to be portrayed by English actress Kate Beckinsale, who she describes as ‘pretty cool’.
Eugenie is the first Royal to comment publicly on the series, which has royal watchers, and drama fans alike, hooked. Starring Claire Foy and former Dr Who, Matt Smith, The Crown has won several awards, including the Golden Globe for ‘Best Television Series – Drama’ and Foy for Best Actress, who thanked Her Majesty when she won.
There is a second series of the drama to be aired in December, which hints at marital issues between Eugenie’s grandparents, The Queen and Prince Philip.
