Busy Princess Anne in Lincolnshire: in prison and on coastal watch

On Tuesday (27th March), Princess Anne, The Princess Royal, was in Lincolnshire to visit HMP North Sea Camp, Boston, and later viewed the National Coastwatch Institution Lookout at Skegness.

As patron of the Butler Trust – a role she has held for 33 years(!) – The Princess Royal regularly spends times in prisons, probationary units and young offenders establishments. The Butler Trust recognises and celebrates outstanding practise by those working with offenders though an annual award scheme, an event that The Princess attended last week.

The Queen’s daughter began her tour of HMP North Sea rehabilitation programme ensuring that she had met staff from all parts of the prison.

Greeted by inmate Andrew Wright and his rare breed pigs and sheep, the royal visitor was shown around the facilities, including industries, an accommodation unit, the gym, as well as the education unit. Princess Anne lastly went to the chapel for a reception.

Despite having arrived late due to the weather, the Princess extended her stay to make sure nothing was missed or skipped over. Princess Anne has, according to the trusts website, ‘been a constant and highly-supportive presence ever since becoming patron’.

To conclude her visit, the Royal was asked to unveil a plaque commemorating the occasion, and given homemade chocolate brownies by the prison Governor.

Her Royal Highness was then on the move again, arriving at her next event of the day. In her capacity as patron of the National Coast Watch, Anne viewed the newly opened Skegness Lookout. She has been patron of the National Coastwatch since August 2017.
