Previously unseen photos from the wedding of Prince Charles to Lady Diana Spencer are to be sold at an American auction next month.
The collection of 14 photographs were taken during the wedding reception at Buckingham Palace, following the couple’s nuptials on 29th July 1981.

Patrick Lichfield, as he was known professionally, also 5th Earl of Lichfield, was the official photographer for the historic event. These photos were developed by an assistant, and they were never released to the public. Prince Charles presented a celebratory album of the day to his wife, and these did not make the cut.
As such, Patrick presented the prints to his assistant as a reward for her work; until now, they have been kept in a private album, but Henrietta, Lord Lichfield’s former assistant, is now selling them.

The collection is made up of seven black-and-white 8 x 10 photographs, and seven colour satin-finish pictures 7 x 5.
A note accompanies the photos, written by Lichfield’s assistant; she was given a special pass to help him install a light in the throne room.

A spokesman for the auction house confirmed the items are being sold directly by their original owner for the first time, saying she was finally ready to share them with the world.
The pictures will go under the hammer on Boston-based website RR Auction, and are expected to fetch between $1,000 – $2,000, with a reserve of $300.

“The black and white ones were printed by me, in the dark room in Aubrey Walk, within hours of the wedding,” said Henrietta, who wishes to remain anonymous.
“The colour photographs were printed by a trusted laboratory that did the Lichfield studio colour work.
“Lord Lichfield had me make up an album of black and white and colour photographs, which he presented to Prince Charles and Princess Diana to commemorate the day of their wedding.

“These are photos that did not go into that album.
“To my knowledge, none have ever been published. Very few people have ever laid eyes on them.”
The lot will be sold on 24th September.
