Meghan Markle interview: Harry and I are ‘really happy and in love’

Prince Harry’s girlfriend, Meghan Markle, has spoken out about her relationship with the Prince in an interview with Vanity Fair, saying the pair are in love.

The actress, who’s famed for playing Rachel Zane in legal drama ‘Suits’, said: “We’re two people who are really happy and in love.”

Markle’s interview will have been sanctioned by Prince Harry; he hit out at press last year for harrassing Meghan, and asked them to give his partner some privacy, unusually releasing a statement about their relationship.

In relation to this, she said to the magazine: “I’m sure there will be a time when we will have to come forward and present ourselves and have stories to tell, but I hope what people will understand is that this is our time.

“This is for us. It’s part of what makes it so special, that it’s just ours. But we’re happy. Personally, I love a great love story.”

Markle revealed that the couple met through friends in 2016, and began dating in July of that year, and have been snapped a handful of times, once at a friend’s Jamaican wedding, but also out for dinner in London.

Asked by the magazine about her experience dating “one of the world’s most famous bachelors”, the actress admitted that being Prince Harry’s girlfriend ‘has its challenges’.

“It comes in waves,” she said. “Some days it can feel more challenging than others. And right out of the gate it was surprising the way things changed. But I still have this support system all around me, and, of course, my boyfriend’s support.”

She does admit that she refuses to read anything written about her, perhaps to combat this. “I haven’t even read press for Suits. The people who are close to me anchor me in knowing who I am. The rest is noise,” Meghan explained.

However, Markle insists it hasn’t changed her. “Nothing about me changed. I’m still the same person that I am, and I’ve never defined myself by my relationship.”

The couple share an interest of philanthropy, Meghan having worked as a UN ambassador, but having also been brought up to recognise the ‘greater world and its political and economic challenges when she was growing up in Los Angeles’, explains the article. Harry’s royal role, of course, ensures he has charitable proclivities. This, combined with their experience of the spotlight, seems to point to a strong relationship, with many pointing to an engagement following this candid interview.

The magazine is available to buy on Friday.
