The Queen & Prince Philip meet baby Archie before public photocall

Earlier today, Prince Harry and Meghan introduced their son to the world, but not before The Queen and Duke and Edinburgh got to meet him.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex appeared in St George’s Hall in Windsor Castle to make their debut as a family of three. The royal couple looked overjoyed as Prince Harry carried the baby, posing for a number of snaps to introduce their son.

An image of the encounter was posted to the Sussex’s instagram account, showing The Queen meeting Baby Sussex, who is her eighth great-grandchild. The caption also announced his name: “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are pleased to announce they have named their first born child: Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

“This afternoon Their Royal Highnesses introduced Her Majesty The Queen to her eighth great-grandchild at Windsor Castle. The Duke of Edinburgh and The Duchess’ mother were also present for this special occasion.”

The photo was taken by Chris Allerton for the couple.

Doria Ragland, Meghan’s mother, is staying at Frogmore with the family, and also met again with Elizabeth II and Prince Philip.

Archie was not one of the bookies’ favourites for the newborn. With a German origin, the name means ‘truly brave’.

It was additionally expected he would take Prince Harry’s secondary title, The Earl of Dumbarton. However, it is clear the Duke and Duchess want their son to be as normal as possible and will not use this styling.
