Along with the official announcement of the Swedish Royal Court’s website the couple released a statement:

“We are so happy and excited to announce that we are expecting our first child. We are very much looking forward to it.”

The happy news comes just four months after the pair married in an extravagant wedding in The Royal Chapel in Stockholm Palace.

The couple have recently moved into their first home at Rosendal Palace while renovations take place at Villa Solbacken where Carl Philip and Sofia had originally hoped to live.

The new addition will be the fifth grandchild for King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia, provided Sofia gives birth after her sister-in-law. The little Prince or Princess will certainly have plenty of playmates as he or she grows up.

The Palace also announced that no changes have been made to Sofia’s schedule for the time being.

It has definitely been an exciting year for the Swedish Royal Family and with two new members of the family on the way, 2016 looks to be no different.
