Catherine’s new hobby – drawing George and Charlotte

Royal portraiture has always been a point of discussion, but now it seems that Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge is trying her hand at it, by drawing her children.

The Daily Mail reports that Catherine has been filling her time with a new hobby: sketching Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

The Cambridges are currently living at Anmer Hall, on The Queen’s Sandringham Estate in Norfolk, and Kate has been taking advantage of the recent good weather to capture the likeness of her children on paper. George is apparently fidgety, and so photos of the future-King are being used by his mother to sketch from.

Catherine has reportedly shared her work with some friends, including one or two from the art world. One friend is said to have joked that her work should be sent to the National Portrait Gallery for display; the 33-year-old Duchess is patron of the gallery, stemming from her interest in art.

Catherine studied History of Art at the University of St Andrews, where she met future husband Prince William; Art was also one of Kate’s A-Levels. William almost dropped out of university, not enjoying his course, but then switched to Geography, reportedly on the advice of girlfriend, Catherine.

The first official photos of Princess Charlotte came from Catherine herself, with two-year-old George cradling his sister, just a few weeks after her arrival; on the couple’s tour of South East Asia for The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, the Duchess was spotted with her camera, capturing the beautiful scenery.
